The West Michigan Aviation Academy girls basketball team couldn’t keep pace with Alliance League-leading Zion Christian on Saturday, leading to a lopsided 48-22 loss.
After going toe-to-toe with the Mountaineers (10-1, 6-0 Alliance) for much of the first half, the Aviators (9-5, 3-2 Alliance) stalled out in the second half. WMAA trailed 11-9 after the first quarter and 26-17 at the break.
Sierra Greer led the Aviator offense, which struggled to build momentum. Greer finished with eight points while Bre Holmlund added six points in the loss, including a game-opening 3-pointer.
Both Audrey Mileski and Grace McConnon finished with four points, as well. McConnon led the Aviators with nine boards.
Zion Christian got 24 points from guard Kelly Leep.
The Aviators drop to third place in the Alliance League with games against Black River and Fruitport Calvary still ahead.
