Fueled by strong offensive performances by Bre Holmlund and Audrey Mileski, the West Michigan Aviation Academy girls basketball team notched its 10th win of the season on Tuesday evening with a 51-26 victory over Holland Black River.
It marks the first 10-win season ever for the Aviators (10-5, 4-2 Alliance), who now sit at third place in the Alliance League behind Zion Christian and Potter’s House.
It was Holmlund and Mileski that sparked WMAA’s hot start on Tuesday at Black River (3-11, 1-5 Alliance). The duo scored 16 of WMAA’s 18 first quarter points to give the Aviators an 18-0 lead at the first break.
After the Aviators led 25-8 at halftime, the Rats did manage to whittle the lead down to single digits early in the second half. However, WMAA was able to re-build the lead as the game wore on.
Mileski finished with 17 points and Holmlund added 16 points — both had four successful 3-pointers each. Mileski maintained active hands on defense, tallying 10 steals in the victory while Holmlund reeled in a team-high seven rebounds.
Grace McConnon added eight points for WMAA in the victory while Sierra Greer and Ava Bazuin both had five points each. All nine available players saw the court for the Aviators.
Sierra Lynch paced Black River with eight points.
The Aviators will close out the regular season on Thursday evening at home in an Alliance League showdown with Fruitport Calvary Christian (5-7, 2-4 Alliance) for Senior Night. The program will honor seniors Greer, Holmlund, McConnon and Deb Ebosele.
