Junior point guard Sierra Greer provided the most potent offense of any other player in the gym on Friday night, but her effort wasn’t enough to lift the West Michigan Aviation Academy girls basketball team over Tri-Unity Christian.
Greer scored a season-high 20 points but the Aviators were unable to close what was 10- to 15-point gap for a majority of the game. The Defenders eventually prevailed 55-31 in the Alliance League matchup.
The performance matched Greer’s career-high. She also recorded 20 points against Algoma Christian to close out the season last year. On Friday night, Greer did it with seven field goals, including one from behind the long line. She was also 5-for-8 from the free throw line.
Freshman guard Audrey Mileski added six points in the loss while Bre Holmlund had two points and Grace McConnon dropped in a single free throw to finish with a point. The Aviators (5-9, 1-3 Alliance League) trailed the defenders 37-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Aviators played tough inside, Holmlund leading the physical effort with a team-high seven boards and Moore adding six.
The Aviators are on the road Monday night against Lee at 7 p.m.
