Aviators News · Track and Field season underway!

Finally, the Track and Field season is up and running at WMAA. Having the 2020 season
cancelled, the WMAA teams were excited to hit the track for 2021. The Aviators were greeted
by a spectacular spring morning at the Lakewood Invitation on Saturday April 17 th .
The meet started off with all field events and it didn’t take long for Aviators to score. Senior
Breanna Holmlund claimed first place in the high jump with a height of 4’-10”. Sophomore
Kayla Brana and freshman Olivia Mellema tied for 7 th place with a jump of 4’-2”.
On the men’s side Junior Kaleb Koellig took second place with a jump of 5’-10 for a personal

On the track, Tatiana Marsh scored for the women’s team by placing 6 th in the 100 and 300
meter hurdle events. Freshman Emma DeVries placed second in the 800 meter run with a
strong time of 2:41.03.

The 4×400 relay team of Kayla Barna, Meigan Lanning, Addison Turk and Emma DeVries placed
3 rd with a time of 4:49.28.

Sophomore Belinda Vrielink placed 5 th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:03.88 and 7 th in
the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:16.93.

Holmlund used her speed to take home the gold medal in the 200 meter dash with a time of
28.76 seconds. In the 400 meter run Breanna placed second with a time of 1:06.05.
On the men’s side Senior Max Reuchlein took home a second place in the 3200 meter run with
a strong time of 10:33.63.

The 2021 men and women’s teams are very young and inexperienced. However, this meet
allowed all our freshman and sophomores the opportunity to compete and gain much needed
experience. Our underclassman runners will continue to work hard and improve upon their
times and distances.

Next meet is Saturday April 24th at West Catholic high school.
