Aviators News · WMAA Athletics Summer Newsletter

I hope this newsletter finds you healthy and safe during this difficult time. With the uncertainty of how school will look in the fall and the questions about athletics, I felt it was important to share the following information currently being planned.

The Athletic Department will be sharing information as if we are going to be back in school full-time and athletics are ready-to-go for the fall season. As you know, there are a tremendous amount of situations about the fall that we do not control. My hopes are that we are able to provide a safe and healthy environment for our students to return to their classrooms, athletic fields, and courts.

As things change and progress throughout the summer, we will keep you informed. Our fall coaches will also serve as a great resource of information as it pertains to their particular sport.  This newsletter will explain a number of items that are directly related to the athletic department and fall sports.

We have started summer workouts with the following conditions. They must fill out and turn in their Health Questionnaire form provided by the MHSAA in order to participate. The link to find this form is https://www.mhsaa.com/Schools/Forms-Resources as well as the Covid-19 Athlete/ Coach Monitoring form. this year due to COVID-19, “Dead Week” has been suspended by the MHSAA for the 2020 summer calendar.

While it’s a new and uncertain environment we are going to get through this together. Our top priority is the safety and health of everyone involved. We are enforcing the following during your summer workouts.

  1. Absolutely no sharing of water bottles or any other drinks
  2. No physical contact
  3. Everyone must bring their own ball
  4. No Huddles
  5. No High Fives or shaking of hands

For the 2020-21 school year, the MHSAA pre-participation sports physical requirement will be waived for students in any grade who received a valid physical for sports during the 2019-20 school year (must be completed on or after April 15, 2019). However, the student and a parent/guardian will be required to complete this two-page MHSAA Sports Health Questionnaire. Please note a signature is required by the student and parent/guardian.  If you have any questions regarding this revised requirement, please read this 2020-21 MHSAA FAQ or visit MHSAA.com.
