Izzy Wall will be continuing her athletic career next year on an athletic scholarship at Cornerstone University. Izzy has been a member of the WMAA girl’s soccer team since their first season as a varsity team. She has been a captain on the team for all four years. In addition Izzy has been a member of the 1st team all-conference as well as a two time all-district honoree.
“I am incredibly proud of Izzy for all of the work that she has put in to get to this point. She always had the potential to play in college and worked hard during the season, but the last two years she has started to commit herself more in the off-season. Even with her hour drive she showed up to as many morning workouts, open gyms and summer workouts she could,” Coach Lewis explained. “She sacrificed a lot and I’m excited her hard work is paying off. This is also a great example for our other girls that if you buy into our program and put in the work you can play in college.”
Izzy will have a familiar face on the sideline with her next year as Coach Lewis has accepted an assistant job with Cornerstone’s women’s team after resigning as the boy’s soccer coach at WMAA. “Ultimately I would love to be a college head coach and this is a step towards that goal. I didn’t want to influence Izzy’s college decision at all but I was ecstatic when she decided on Cornerstone. It ended up working out that Cornerstone offered both of us an opportunity to chase our dreams.”
