The MHSAA Division 2, regional 17 track and field meet was held at Grand Rapids Forest Hills
Eastern High School on Friday, May 17 th . Seventeen high school teams competed to qualify
athletes for the state track and field finals.
The WMAA men’s team were led by Seniors Dragon Dang and Yussuf Abdullahi. Both sprinters
qualified for the 100 meter dash finals. Dang ran a personal best of 11.64 seconds in the
preliminaries. In the finals Dang finished 7 th and Abdullahi 8 th to take home individual medals.
Dragon also set a personal best of 5’-7” in the high jump. Junior high jumper Brody Gravelyn
tied for 8 th place to earn his regional medal.
Abdullahi also qualified for the 200 meter final and finished in 4 th place to earn his second
medal of the day.
Dang and Abdullahi teamed up with seniors Njunge Gathungu and Marsul Dahir in the boys
4×100 meter relay to take home the 4 th place medals.
The boys 4×800 relay team of Brayden Lane, Jack Tamlyn, Max Reuchlin and Triston Mayton ran
a time of 8:43:84 to finish in 8 th place and earn another medal.
Reuchlin, a sophomore, also ran a personal best of 10:16:83 in the 3200 meter run.
Junior Aaron Harris long jumped 16’-1.5” to establish his personal best
Junior Joe Skrycki made a personal best in the discus with a throw of 113’-6”.
The WMAA women’s team was led by Sophomore Breanna Holmlund. Bre earned her first
medal in the high jump with a leap of 4’-10”. She qualified for the 200 meter finals and placed
4 th to earn her second medal of the day.
Holmlund then teamed up with Julianna Wilson, Sierra Barna and Katie Woodruff in the 4×400
relay. The team finished in sixth place, took home another medal and just missed the school
record by .13 seconds.
Freshman Tatiana Marsh continued her hot streak of setting personal best in the hurdles
events. Marsh ran a PR of 18.52 in the 100 meter hurdles, qualified for the finals, finished in 8 th
place and earned her first regional medal. Tatiana than ran a 53.25 in the 300 meter hurdles
and finished in 10 th place.
Senior Julianna Wilson set a personal best in the 800 Meter run with a time of 2:32.81 earning
her a 8 th place finish and medal.
In the 1600 meter run Melinda Weaver ran 5:59.00 for her personal best in the event.

Isabela DelCarmen ran a PR best of 1:11.21 in the 400 meter run.
Thrower Emma Hazelton set PR’s in the discus (78’-2”) and shot put (22’-10.5”). Teammate
Grace Morris also set a PR in the discus with a toss of 69’-0”
Senior Marissa Baas capped of her season with a PR run of 14.72 in the 100 meter dash.
