With only a few practices under their belts in the 2018-19 season, the West Michigan Aviation Academy girls basketball team will put its new roster to the test, beginning this weekend.
For the second straight year, WMAA will host a variety of area girls basketball teams on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. This event provides both the Aviators, and a number of other teams, with the chance to compete against each other in abbreviated, informal scrimmages.
This year, the Aviators will go against the West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science, the West Michigan Hornets, Grand River Prep and Wellspring Prep. The first games kick off at 9 a.m. and the event is open to spectators, but limited seating will be available.
Then, on Monday, Nov. 26, the Aviators will host the West Michigan Hornets in a traditional scrimmage, which will tip-off at roughly 7:30 p.m.
This year’s unusually large WMAA roster features seven new additions from last year while returning nine players. The regular season kicks off on the road with a Dec. 6 game against Calvary Schools of Holland.
